Liverpool swoop in for Juventus star with Prem experience to replace key cog

Liverpool are interested in bringing former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey back to the Premier League, according to reports in Italy.

Ramsey left Arsenal in 2019 after more than a decade of service, joining Juventus as a free agent.

The Wales international made 24 Serie A appearances on course to winning the Scudetto in his first season in Italy. However, he has struggled to hold down a regular role this season, making just 12 league starts.

Juventus have fallen off the pace in their attempts to defend the title they have won for the last nine years running. Hence, they could be ready to make some changes in the summer.

Ramsey is one of the players with an uncertain future. He has already been linked with a move back to England, with one report recently suggesting Everton may have a chance to sign him.

But according to Calciomercato, it is their Merseyside rivals Liverpool who are considering a move for Ramsey.

Liverpool are bracing themselves for the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum this summer. The Dutch midfielder is out of contract and is yet to reach a financial agreement.

Wijnaldum has been a target for Barcelona ever since Ronald Koeman became their head coach. Inter Milan are also pushing hard to sign the 30-year-old.

In the likely event that he leaves, Liverpool will need to find a replacement. They have already been linked with a number of possible options.

Rob Earnshaw: World-class Ramsey a big influence for Wales

Aaron Ramsey is a 'big influence' on the Wales squad and his return to the team has had a huge lift on the rest of the players, says former international Rob Earnshaw.

The latest to emerge is Ramsey. With more than 250 Premier League appearances to his name in the past, he knows what it takes to succeed in the English top flight.

The 30-year-old is under contract until 2023, but Juventus could be looking to cash in. Therefore, there may be an opportunity for Liverpool.

The report does not specify how much Juventus would be looking for in order to sell Ramsey. But with that possibility very much on their minds, it seems they will be open to offers.

Ramsey has another Prem suitor

However, Liverpool are not the only team who would be interested in Ramsey.

According to Calciomercato, he could have the chance not just to return to England, but to London, as West Ham are also keen.

The Hammers have exceeded expectations this season and are actually in a battle with Liverpool for a similar position in the table. Now, it seems they have similar transfer targets in mind as well.

Previous reports have suggested another London-based suitor for Ramsey. Last month, it was claimed that Tottenham could offer their former rival an escape route away from Turin.

At the time, there were suggestions of a price tag of €15m (around €13m).
