Liverpool’s Mbappe chances revealed as Madrid draw up summer plans

Liverpool must be prepared to match Real Madrid in the hunt for Kylian Mbappe after the Spanish giants signalled their intent over a big-money move next summer, according to reports.

The 21-year-old has become one of the world’s best forwards at Paris Saint-Germain and is in line to become one of the favourites for the Ballon d’Or when Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo retire.

However, Mbappe is yet to showcase his talent deep into the knockout stages of the Champions League with PSG struggling in the last 16 stage in recent seasons.

As such, Real Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for the striker to give him a platform to go deep in Europe’s elite competition.

According to Marca (via the Daily Express), that interest has not waned and the Spanish giants are prepared to make a big-money approach for Mbappe next summer.

Liverpool, therefore, must be willing to financially match Zinedine Zidane’s side, with the Reds also being loosely linked with the player.

There were suggestions that Liverpool’s impending kit deal with Nike could raise the potential of a deal being struck, while a fallout between Mbappe and PSG boss Thomas Tuchel also raised some claims of frustration.

However, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has outlined why a move for Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho may not be realistic.

“I think it would be so difficult for them, in their first two-and-a-half years at Liverpool, to get those numbers,” Carragher said.

“That is why Liverpool need to be careful. Look at the numbers. Only Lionel Messi in European football is above this man.”
