Liverpool legend predicts outcome of Keita & Van Dijk sagas

Jamie Carragher doesn’t think Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will invest in another midfielder this summer, while he predicts their reported interest in Virgil van Dijk will go “down to the wire”.

RB Leipzig have reportedly rejected two bids from the Reds for midfielder Naby Keita and their coach Ralph Hasenhuttl has claimed that the Guinea international will now “100 per cent” stay.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s move for Van Dijk seems to have hit a bump in the road as the defender is reportedly set to return to first-team training at Southampton following his apparent desire to leave the club.

And Carragher has made some interesting predictions on the outcome of both of Liverpool’s big transfer sagas.

“Regarding Keita, I don’t think that Klopp will go out and buy another midfielder. I think he would be willing to wait until next season as supposedly Keita has a buyout clause,” he told 5times.co.uk.

“I reckon the Van Dijk saga will go right down to the wire. I don’t think Liverpool have ended all their interest in him at all. Nevertheless, if we go into the new season with what we’ve got now, I think there will be a lot of trepidation amongst the Liverpool fans.”

“I’m sure the club are working 24/7 behind the scenes to bring players in, not only to keep the supporters happy, but to strengthen the squad for the big season ahead.”
