Liverpool, Man Utd target Pulisic hints PL ‘dream’ is now history

USA star Christian Pulisic has given little away about his future in an interview with NBC Sports.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder has been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United in the last 18 months, but he was coy when questioned about his future by the American broadcaster yesterday.

Pulisic, 19, is firmly admired by Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool’s American owners are also believed to be fans of the Dortmund man and all the marketing opportunities that would come with the Pennsylvania-born star.

Man Utd, who also have American owners, are also believed to be monitoring Pulisic, whose American team will not be at the World Cup next month after missing out on qualification.

Asked whether the reports frustrate him or is it flatter him, he was non-committal, but he did use the past tense when claiming it “was a dream” to play in England.

“I really don’t look or read into it very much,” Pulisic told NBC. “People know more about it than I do! Of course, the Premier League is a great league. It was a dream to play there when I was younger but I’m under contract with Dortmund and I’m just working hard there at the moment.”

Pulisic, who despite being born in the US has dual USA-Croatia citizenship, has been training at the Dortmund Academy since he was 16.

“I’m very focused on the here and the now. Of course, you never know what can happen with professional sports but I am just focused on what I am doing right now,” added Pulisic.

Pulisic is under contract at Dortmund until 2020, after penning a three-and-a-half-year deal in January 2017 – which ended talk of a move to Liverpool.

Klopp though is a big fan of the Pennsylvania-born star.

Former Dortmund boss Klopp piled praise on Pulisic in February 2015, when Pulisic was coming through the ranks.

“We were missing his position and that’s why we called him up,” Klopp said in a press conference. “He did a good job.

“Pulisic is part of that generation. He’s a great footballer, an attacking midfielder. He can kick the ball around really well. And in a very intense training session with narrow spaces, he did not stand out in a negative way. This is a real sign of quality.”

However, earlier this month Dortmund played down talk of Liverpool making a summer move for Pulisic.

Bild have reported that Klopp would launch a bid to sign the £60million0rated star, but BVB sporting director Michael Zorc has cooled the speculation.

“I am in constant exchange with Jurgen Klopp, but I am not aware of this,” said BVB sporting director Michael Zorc.
