Daniel Agger has taken up his first role in management five years after the former Liverpool defender retired from playing.
Agger enjoyed a successful eight-year spell with Liverpool, either side of two stints with Brondby. Amassing more than 200 appearances for the Reds, he won two trophies on Merseyside. However, his career was disrupted by injuries.
Agger had to retire at the age of just 31 after those injuries eventually took their toll. Now, he is getting back into the football industry.
The 75-time Denmark international has become the new head coach of HB Koge. They play in the second tier in his native country.
He has revealed that he is looking forward to the pressure that will come with the job.
“The idea of returning to a new role in the football industry and testing myself has grown on me in recent years,” Agger told the club’s website.
“HB Koge is the perfect place for me to start.
“The club rest on healthy values and have a solid foundation.
“The crucial thing for me is that I personally know several of those who run HB Koge on a daily basis.
“I am very much looking forward to getting started. And yes, I look forward to coming under pressure again.”
Steven Gerrard not interested in Liverpool comparisons
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard says his Scottish Premiership title win 'is not about making up' for missing out on winning the league as a player with Liverpool.
Agger is not the only former Liverpool player to have moved into coaching in recent years. Most famously, former captain Steven Gerrard recently guided Rangers to a long-awaited Scottish Premiership title.
Fellow ex-midfielder Xabi Alonso is also coaching in Spain, although reports he was set to become the next Borussia Monchengladbach manager were wide of the mark.
Liverpool defensive target warming to transfer
In other news, Liverpool continue to be linked with players in the position Agger used to roam, centre-back.
One of their top targets appears to be Ibrahima Konate. However, there have been conflicting claims about how close a deal for the RB Leipzig man actually is.
The latest information though suggests a move to Anfield could well be on the cards for the Frenchman.
Fresh reports from Sky Germany have claimed that Liverpool have not yet made a ‘concrete offer’ to Leipzig.
However, the source adds that Konate is edging closer to a summer transfer due to his ‘dissatisfaction’.
The defender has suffered two injuries this season, ruling him out of 10 Bundesliga matches.
Aside from his time out, though, he has spent seven other matches on the substitutes’ bench.
Therefore, the report claims that he is growing frustrated with his lack of action and a ‘summer change’ is ‘quite conceivable’.
