Danny Ward: Wants to make an impact at Liverpool

Highly-rated prospect Danny Ward has been recalled by Liverpool and could now rival Adam Bogdan to be the club’s second-choice goalkeeper.

Ward has been on loan at Scottish Premier League outfit Aberdeen, where he has caught the eye with a string of impressive performances.

The 22-year-old has helped the club keep 12 clean sheets in 29 appearances in all competitions this term, as the Dons sit second in the SPL, only three points behind Celtic.

“Naturally we are disappointed Liverpool FC have opted to recall Danny,” manager Derek McInnes told the Aberdeen’s official website.

“We were very fortunate to secure Danny during the summer and we thank Liverpool for believing Pittodrie would be a good platform for Danny to continue his development

“His progression has been clear for all to see and he’s demonstrated to everyone what a capable keeper he is. Everyone at AFC would like to thank him for all his efforts during his time here and wish him all her very best in his future career.”

Ward – who also had a loan spell at Morecambe last season – is now expected to challenge Bogdan to be Simon Mignolet’s backup.

Former Bolton stopper Bogdan has made five appearances since joining the Reds, but has looked particularly shaky in his previous two outings – the 3-0 defeat at Watford and the 2-2 draw with Exeter – which earned the 28-year-old a place in our worst team of the FA Cup third round.
