Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson believes Chelsea will be acquiring one of the best players in his position worldwide if their attempted mega money move for Ben Chilwell goes through.
Blues owner Roman Abramovich freed up the funds to secure his signature along with two other huge deals, with Chelsea’s back-line looking like it will finally get a much needed shot in the arm.
Robertson is considered one of the premier left-backs in the world at present, and believes his Premier League counterpart belongs in the conversation.
“I think Alphonso Davies, already world-class but he can only get better,” Robertson told BT Sport (via The Express).
“Don’t expect me to be doing that [Davies’ assist vs Barcelona] any time in a hurry. That was just incredible. It probably took five or six of them out of the game with one passage of play.
“Phenomenal player, somebody I enjoy watching and I think the whole world’s enjoying watching him at the minute.
“Ben Chilwell I love watching in the Premier League.
“Then I would say Jordi Alba, the more experienced one of the three I would say, maybe coming near the end of his career, but what a career he’s had.
“Him and Marcelo probably took left-backs to a whole new level.”
£50m fair price for Chilwell
Chilwell’s price tag of £50m has become the new normal for promising full-backs in the present day.
And transfer expert Julien Laurens believes Chelsea would simply be paying market value for the 23-year-old.
“I think that’s the price of the market,” he said (via The Express).
“If you look at the price of Walker, for example, or Benjamin Mendy, Aaron Wan-Bissaka. This is the price for those sorts of full-backs.
“Leicester were in a strong position because they knew Chelsea were really after a left-back. From very early on Lampard targeted Ben Chilwell.
“I think he ticks all the boxes for what Lampard wants from a left-back.
“It was always a deal that was going to be done and provided Leicester weren’t going to be too greedy with their asking price.”
