Liverpool are reportedly set to lose defender Corey Whelan on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the month.
The defender, who can play both centre-back and right-back, had showed signs of serious promise at Anfield, even captaining the club’s U23 side, but never made the breakthrough into the senior team.
With his contract expiring in 17 days, Jurgen Klopp will allow the Republic of Ireland U21 international to pursue a fresh challenge.
Whelan obviously has the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip ahead of him at the moment, and having failed to make a senior appearance a move abroad seems likely.
Football Insider claims that while there was interest from England in the centre-back, he is now expected to join one of a number of German sides who are interested in his signature.
