Liverpool are on the verge of signing a Monaco starlet, according to the latest reports from France.

L’Equipe claims that the Reds are close to completing a deal for 17-year-old midfield talent Christian Koffi, who will be available on a free transfer as his contract expires this summer.

The report states that Koffi will hold talks with the Anfield club in the next few days, putting Jurgen Klopp’s side firmly in pole position to poach the talented youngster.

Should the deal be finalised, he is expected to join Steven Gerrard’s youth side, having not made a senior appearance yet for Monaco.

According to HITC, the Ivorian ‘possesses an impressive physique, and plays with a certain kind of tenacity that would surely make him a huge hit in the Premier League’.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are also reportedly still keen on £92m-rated Monaco star Thomas Lemar, who admitted that he had a little bit of regret about not securing a move to the Premier League.

“Regrets? Maybe. I was a little disappointed,” he told Telefoot.

“Once it’s over, it’s over, so do not think about it. I will keep working hard so these clubs will eventually come back in the next transfer window. I am open to all offers. I am a football player, I like football. I do not close any door.”
