Liverpool have dismissed speculation linking them with Aston Villa star Jack Grealish, labelling the rumours as ‘baffling’.
Grealish is one of few players Villa could move on for significant money to fund another bid at Championship promotion this coming season.
Tottenham are the most likely suitors for the 21-year-old, but Liverpool were linked on Sunday.
A club source has dismissed those rumours however, according to the Echo.
The newspaper says the club find the speculation ‘baffling’, mainly because they ‘are targeting a higher calibre of player’.
‘It had been reported that Liverpool had held talks with Villa’s sacked technical director Steve Round about the possibility of a deal, but that is not the case,’ the article adds.
Tottenham are expected to win the race to sign Grealish, who Villa want £20m for.
