Liverpool star TAA gives ‘obvious’ title verdict he’s known since Christmas as Arsenal, Man City praised

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool, April 2023

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold believes it’s “obvious” who’ll win the Premier League from here on in, as he praised both Arsenal and Manchester City.

Arsenal and City have been the two sides with the best chance of winning the title all season. Now it’s crunch time, with just nine games remaining between them, nothing has changed on that front.

What has changed is the position both sides find themselves in.

The Gunners have been the side to beat for the majority of the season. They’ve held top spot for most weeks of the campaign, with City overtaking them for the first time in months recently.

That came off the back of a phenomenal run for the Citizens, which they’ll be looking to maintain for the rest of the campaign.

Indeed, Pep Guardiola’s side have now won each of their last nine games in the league. Meanwhile, Arsenal have faltered, losing to City prior to their last game – that followed a run of three consecutive draws, allowing the Citizens back in.

The experience of the City side is telling at the moment. They’ve won the league during four of the last five seasons, losing out to Liverpool in the 2019/20 campaign.

Arsenal have not won the league since the 2003/04 campaign, so most of their squad don’t have the experience in these situations that City have to call upon.

Alexander-Arnold thinks it’s ‘obvious’ City win title

Liverpool star Alexander-Arnold has weighed in on the title race. While his side have been off the pace this season, he’s been in title fights with City previously, most recently last season, when the Reds were pipped to the spoils by a single point.

“The league [winner] is obvious now,” he told Red Bull.

“I’ve said it for a while, if Man City are anywhere close, if they smell blood at Christmas, New Year – it’s game over really.

“I think it’s just got to be their mindset, I think it’s just the messaging because they don’t even go behind in games at this point.”

Alexander-Arnold expects strong City finish

Amid a phenomenal period of form at the moment, Alexander-Arnold feels City will be able to maintain that to the end of the season, dominating the final few weeks.

“There’s no stopping them once they start winning and now at this point, I’d be surprised if they drew a game,” he added.

While he feels City are an absolute powerhouse, the Liverpool star has also hailed Arsenal for their part in the title battle this season.

“There’s no messing around, there’s no scares, there’s no ups and downs in games. With Arsenal, it was exciting because they were dropping points, but in an exciting way,” he said.

“Whereas Man City, I don’t even know how to describe it, they’re like a juggernaut.”
