Daniel Sturridge: Yet another injury setback

Daniel Sturridge says “all-action” Jurgen Klopp brought about an immediate improvement by increasing the intensity of Liverpool training.

Klopp was appointed to replace Brendan Rodgers at the start of October, since when the Reds have lost only once in eight matches, with victories at Chelsea and Manchester City indicating that the German has been able to make his mark already.

Sturridge has been sidelined for most of Klopp’s reign so far due to a knee injury but the striker returned to the squad for the 4-1 triumph at the Etihad on Saturday. Despite his recent absences, the England forward has observed Klopp’s approach to training and the intensity he demands from his players.

Talking to Liverpool’s website, Sturridge said: “I’ve been very impressed. He came in and over the first week – which I was training in – he put his style on us pretty much straight away.

“He trains you exactly how he wants you to play, in terms of he’s very involved, he’s all-action, he’s very intense and he wants you to perform at your best level every day in training as well.

“That’s what everyone does on the training field – gives 100 per cent every day and goes into the games with the same mentality.”
