Liverpool swatted aside as Sky Sports man drops €30m Man Utd transfer reveal; Serie A club provide update on sale
Manchester United are firmly in control of the Sofyan Amrabat transfer with a well-respected Sky Sports man dropping an update on the Fiorentina star and reported interest from Liverpool.
The Morocco star finds himself a man in demand this summer with now under two weeks left before the window closes. His side Fiorentina are willing to cash in on the player, who now has 11 months remaining on his deal with the Serie A side.
To that end, both Liverpool and United have been strongly credited with an interest. The Merseysiders’ need for new midfielders is well documented. Six players have left from their engine room this summer with the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson presenting the Reds with an additional headache.
And while three players have signed – Waturu Endo being the latest on Friday – they still want to bring in at least one more fresh face. As a result, Jurgen Klopp has reportedly made fresh contact with Amrabat in a bid to persuade him to opt for Anfield this summer.
However, it seems Amrabat’s mind is firmly focused on a move to Old Trafford. To that end, the star has already agreed terms with United, with a reunion with Erik ten Hag – whom he played under at Utrecht – seemingly his preference.
The star is valued at around €30m (£25m) by Fiorentina, though United need to sell before they can buy with the club having spent their summer transfer budget already and pushing their FFP limits to the maximum.
Now Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, speaking on the Transfer Talk podcast, has shared what he knows and confirmed that Amrabat indeed prefers a switch to the Red Devils.
Man Utd in driving seat for Sofyan Amrabat transfer
Discussing Liverpool’s signing of Endo and their plans to further add to their squad, Sheth said: “That may not be all for Liverpool. Our colleagues in Sky Italy have reported that Liverpool have held talks with intermediaries about the possibility of signing of Sofyan Amrabat.
“We’re told it’s not gone much further than that and the information we have been giving you throughout this window is that Amrabat’s preferred destination is Manchester United. But whether Manchester United can do a deal or not is looking increasingly difficult as they need to try and get players out at good fees to do a deal for someone like Amrabat.”
Indeed, United are actively looking to offload more of their unwanted stars before the window closes. The club have already said goodbye to Anthony Elanga, Fred and Alex Telles, among others, generating around £33m in income.
However, plans to sell Harry Maguire have stalled, while there remains no takers at this stage for other unwanted players Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay.
Nonetheless, United will continue finding suitors for the trio, while another, in goalkeeper Dean Henderson, is also up for grabs.
Should any of those leave, United will likely launch a firm approach to bring Amrabat to Old Trafford.
Providing an update on their reported interest, Fiorentina chief Daniele Prade confirms they are yet to receive any concrete proposals for the star.
“The situation is clear,” said Prade on Fiorentina’s YouTube channel. “He wants to join a top club and we want to satisfy him, but if we receive no offers, he will stay with us. We don’t have a player like him in the team.”
Per reports earlier this week, both United and Liverpool feel La Viola’s €30m demand for Amrabat is too high and both would hope to secure a discount of the fee if they were to follow up on their initial interest.
