A central defender Liverpool made a last-ditch attempt to sign in January has received glowing praise from Real Madrid’s scouting department.

Liverpool sought to address their mounting injury crisis at the back with January reinforcements.

A number of centre-halves across Europe were linked as the Reds left it late to wrap up their business.

Ex-Preston defender Ben Davies and Schalke youngster Ozan Kabak ultimately arrived. Though other names were reported to be in the frame.

Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car was the recipient of interest, and recently admitted he was honoured by the approach while explaining why a move did not materialise.

Finally, Braga centre-half David Carmo was linked. Details of Liverpool’s interest in the 21-year-old were revealed by a Portuguese report that forced a big meeting among Braga chiefs.

Carmo – who recently suffered a worrying ankle injury – would ultimately remain in Portugal. But with his stock on the rise, further bids are expected in the future once he makes a full recovery.

Pep Guardiola supports Jurgen Klopp: Sometimes losing matches is good

Pep Guardiola says sustained success is not possible in football and that 'sometimes it's good to lose' matches, as he showed his support for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

One club that could attempt to scupper any future Liverpool plans is La Liga giants Real Madrid.

Spanish outlet AS (as cited by Goal) state that the club’s scouts produced ‘glowing reports’ on the defender.

Roma are reported to have had a bid rejected last summer. Furthermore, bitter rivals Man Utd are also said to be ‘tracking him.’

Klopp urged to land ‘perfect’ duo

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been encouraged to make two signings perfect for Jurgen Klopp’s style of play by former Reds striker Emile Heskey.

The reigning Premier League champions bolstered their defensive ranks by bringing in Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak on deadline day.

However, their attack has often misfired this season. Back-ups Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri have struggled o make a mark when standing in for Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Diogo Jota was brought in for big money last summer. However, after an impressive start to life at Anfield, the winger has since been on the sidelines through injury.

To that end, Heskey believes his old club should raid Wolves again for flying wingers Adama Traore and Pedro Neto.
