Liverpool target Keita ends training session with horror tackle

Leipzig head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl ended a training session after Liverpool target Naby Keita dived into a dangerous tackle on team-mate Diego Demme.

German newspaper Bild claims that Keita’s midfield partner Demme fell to the floor ‘screaming’ following the challenge that forced Hasenhüttl to abandon the session.

Demme was reportedly seen hobbling off with a bandage on his knee and Hasenhüttl demanded that Keita apologised to his team-mate – which he is understood to have done.

Leipzig released a short comment following the incident: “Let off for Diego #Demme. He suffered a bruised knee from a tackle in training, but his meniscus & ligaments are fine. Get well soon, Diego!”

Footage from the aftermath of the tackle in Austria shows worried players crowding around Demme while he receives medical attention.

Bild even speculates in the report that the tackle could have been born out of frustration at the lack of movement on a potential move to Liverpool.

The Reds have been linked with a third bid of £75million for Keita in recent days after they had £57million and £66million offers turned down.

However, Leipzig owner Dietrich Mateschitz has insisted that Keita will “fulfil” his contract with the Bundesliga side.

“We don’t sell any of our players just to get money,” Mateschitz told Bild last weeek. “Lately we got a €75m offer for Naby Keita. No way!

“He has a contract and he will fulfil it. To sell him would not only be a proof of distrust to our fans but also the wrong sign for our players like Timo Werner, who is in demand too.”
