Social Shots: Werner rocket alerts Liverpool; new low for Sheringham

Date published: Monday 20th January 2020 9:57

This week’s collection features an incredible Timo Werner goal, flamboyant skills from Zlatan and Jadon Sancho and a corner flag hitting a supporter where it hurts.

In our weekly feature, we take a look at the best social media posts from across the world of football over the weekend. Football and social media can go hand in hand, but not everyone gets it right. Here, we celebrate those that do, highlighting the posts that have made us chuckle, the videos of wonder goals that we’ve just had to watch again, or just anything we felt simply had to be shared…

Timo Werner scores a thunderb*****d

It’s little wonder the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea are clambering over themselves to sign Timo Werner

Zlatan defies age barriers

The man is 38 for God’s sake. This is unreal!

Shearer goes wild as Toon sink Blues

The celebration may have changed slightly since his playing pomp but Alan Shearer still knows how to celebrate a late winner for Newcastle.

Toon supporter hit in the crown jewels

What are the chances? This looked really painful….

Save of the season?

On this evidence we are sure Steve Cook could do a job between the sticks for Gareth Southgate’s England in the Euros. Indeed, nonplayer has a better save % in the Premier League this season than Mr Cook (100%).

Jack the lad saves Villa again

21 games. 7 goals. 5 assists. Love him or loathe him you can’t deny that Jack Grealish is a rare talent. Grealish has been directly involved in 41% of Aston Villa’s Premier League goals this season. Absolute baller.

Teddy branches out

As recently as 2015 Teddy Sheringham began his managerial career with Stevenage. Fast forward five years and he’s a singing tree on Saturday night TV (with Mr Chow on the panel). I guess what we are saying is follow your dreams…

Sancho shines again in Germany

Hells bells. Jadon Sancho is that good he even makes Wimbledon-style long ball football look sexy.

Diabolical from Donnarumma

Hand on heart we are not sure about Gianluigi Donnarumma’s positioning here? Or indeed what Messrs Hansen and Lawro would have made of it back in the day?

The one that got away…

On the same weekend Manchester United lost to Liverpool to casually slip 30 points behind the Reds, Erling Braut Håland scored a hat-trick on his Dortmund debut. Ouch.

Hats? He’s not so Keane

We are obviously big fans of Roy Keane not fancying United before the game because Luke Shaw was warming up in a hat. Never change, Roy.

Water you on about?

Patrice Evra checking Souey’s drink after his rant about VAR. We love to see it.

Unbridled joy for Alisson at Anfield

It’s not quite David Pleat making his famous dash across the green grass of Maine Road in a naughty beige suit, but the sheer joy that overcomes Alisson here after Mohamed Salah put the game to bed for Liverpool certainly tickled us.

On this Day

One of the greatest defenders ever made his debut as a raw 16-year-old on this day back in 1985. His longevity is almost unprecedented in the modern game, spending all 25 years of his career in Serie A with Milan before finally calling it a day at the age of 41. The original Italian Minister of Defence.
