Bayern CEO makes telling admission as Liverpool target Thiago promised exit in ‘fair’ deal

Thiago-Bayern-Munich

Liverpool have been handed fresh hope in their quest to sign Thiago Alcantara after the latest comments from Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Despite marching to their first Premier League title with an 18-point margin, Liverpool’s work remains unfinished in the transfer market.

The issue of left-back depth was one area many had predicted would be addressed. Indeed, Jurgen Klopp remedied that situation with the recent signing of Kostas Tsimikas.

Another potential wrinkle in Klopp’s squad surrounds creativity in midfield.

Adam Lallana’s exit via free agency has left a gap in the squad, and Bayern midfield maestro Thiago has been speculated as a solution.

The Reds have expressed their interest in the 29-year-old over recent weeks after talks to extend his stay in Munich stalled during the pandemic.

With just 12 months remaining on his contract in Bavaria, Bayern are reportedly open to his exit.

Now, comments from club CEO Rummenigge have ramped up proceedings after he revealed the club will ‘work on’ Thiago’s departure if a ‘fair’ offer is made.

He told German publication Bild (via The Metro): ‘Regarding Thiago, it’s known that he told us he wanted to do something new.

‘If a club approaches us that is willing to pay a fair transfer fee, we will work on it.’

A fee of around £27m has previously been cited as required to bring the Spaniard to Anfield, who was recently praised highly by Rio Ferdinand.

Ferdinand, who was watching for BT Sport as Bayern defeated Chelsea on Sunday, believes the player would be a “dream” signing for Liverpool.

Thiago Bayern TEAMtalk

“He is a conductor, somebody who controls the tempo of the game, he’s got a wing mirror so he can see behind him, can see all angles, play every pass in the game,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“Intelligent player, he speaks the language which is an important part of it as well.

“He’d be a dream to have for someone like Liverpool. He’s the type of player they probably haven’t got.”

Liverpool star compared favourably to Man Utd counterpart

Meanwhile, A Man Utd star has come up short in a pundit’s comparison to his Liverpool counterpart despite enjoying a stellar season this year.

Man Utd TEAMtalk

Both Liverpool and Man Utd enjoyed successful seasons given their aims and objectives prior to the campaign.

Liverpool secured their maiden Premier League title, while Man Utd improved immeasurably under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Red Devils remain in the hunt for the Europa League, and stormed up the Premier League table to secure a top four spot after a superb run of form post-Christmas.

But despite their resurgence, a well-known pundit has claimed a key Man Utd cog is no match for the Liverpool ace.
