Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi gave an update on the future of Liverpool target Stefan De Vrij after their 1-0 win last night.
The Biancocelesti won 1-0 against Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals and Dutch centre-back De Vrij played the full 90 minutes.
And afterwards Inzaghi spoke of his delight and the desire to keep hold of De Vrij.
“We played an excellent first half, we could have scored more goals for sure, “Inzaghi told Rai Sport. “In the second half we were more tired and Fiorentina did very well.
“It’s the second successive game in which we keep a clean sheet, we are happy for the win, we’ll be very busy from February but we are happy to play many games. The injury of Caicedo is the only bad news of the night.”
Talking about the future of De Vrij, a target of Liverpool and Barcelona, Inzaghi added: “He’s a great champion and I hope he will be staying with us. I’d like to coach him again. The club is in charge of this situation.”
The contract of the Dutch international expires in the summer and Liverpool and Atletico Madrid have already reportedly made offers for him, according to Tuttosport.
Liverpool’s number one target was Virgil van Dijk, but he looks set to move to Man City, with Southampton still believed to be unwilling to do business with the Reds after threatening to report them over an alleged illegal approach for Van Dijk.
De Vrij is now thought to be top of Jurgen Klopp’s wanted list, but Lazio will not let him leave without a fight.
