Liverpool set for transfer blitz as news of secret wish-list emerges

Reports claim Liverpool have been secretly compiling a list of attacking players they want to target before the summer transfer window closes.

The Reds have been strangely quiet in the transfer market since the end of last season. Jurgen Klopp has added only centre-back Ibrahima Konate to his ranks. Last season’s defensive woes meant landing a new stopper was essential.

But there have been growing calls to bring in some players to help in the final third. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have been Klopp’s ‘go-to’ trio for some time.

And they have generally delivered, with Liverpool winning both the Premier League and Champions League with the stars. But Mane and Firmino failed to match their previous high standards in 2020-2021.

Diogo Jota managed to force his way into the Merseysiders’ starting line up. And the Portugal international delivered.

He bagged nine goals from 19 Premier League appearances and 13 in all competitions. His return gave the German tactician food for thought that he may need to tinker with his attacking ranks.

And, with that in mind, Reds chief Michael Edwards has put together a ‘top secret’ shortlist, according to the Liverpool Echo (via The Express). There is no mention of any specific targets.

But, with Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi vulnerable to an Anfield exit, it seems clear which area needs reinforcing.

Liverpool eyeing Lille ace

One name that keeps cropping up is Lille Midfielder Renato Sanches. The 23-year-old made 23 league appearances as Lille puled off a shock Ligue 1 triumph last term.

Unsurprisingly, a number of Les Dogues stars have been targeted by top clubs throughout Europe. Sanches seems to be on the radar of Liverpool and Arsenal.

It was suggested last weekend that he is available for €35m but neither club have submitted an offer to date. While not really a goal scoring midfielder, the Portugal international does most things well.

Renato Sanches, Daley Blind

He is comfortable in defence or attack and shows composure on the ball. It is unclear if the former Bayern Munich man is on the ‘list’ but he is reportedly available to purchase in the off-season.

Klopp has just one week before the start of the new Premier League campaign. The former Borussia Dortmund coach takes his men to Carrow Road to face top-flight new boys Norwich City on August 14.

It may be too soon to get a new player on board but he has until the end of the month to bring in new faces.
