Ozan Kabak TEAMtalk

Liverpool are racing against today’s transfer deadline to get not one, but two defender deals completed.

The champions are ready to pay a £2.5m loan fee for Schalke centre-back Ozan Kabak. Sky Germany report that Liverpool are trying to get a deal done before the Bundesliga’s 5pm (GMT) deadline.

Michael Edwards has proposed a loan deal with an option yo buy Kabak, who has been a long-term target for Jurgen Klopp.

Schalke though would need to bring a replacement in and they have little time to do so.

Sky Sports reported Vinny O’Connor claims Schalke have a replacement in mind.

“We understand Kabak’s replacement has been identified. However, there are no guarantees that the deal will be concluded in time,” said O’Connor on Sky Sports News.

And FussballTransfers report that Shkodran Mustafi could be that man. The Arsenal defender is set to have his contract terminated by Arsenal and he could sign for Schalke later on Monday.

Liverpool are all set to tie up a deal for Preston’s Ben Davies, who is undergoing a medical.

But a deal for Kabak is in addition to the Davies capture and they are in negotiations to seal a transfer.

“What we are being told is that Liverpool are in a race against time to agree a deal with Schalke for their central defender Ozan Kabak,” added O’Connor.

Man Utd interest

“He’s been linked with Liverpool for a long time and we know of their interest in him. Now, we have been told preparations are underway for the 20-year-old to undergo a medical in Germany today if a deal can be agreed.”

Bundesliga journalist Chris Williams claimed Liverpool contacted Schalke about Kabak in September. And Italian source Sport Media Set also report that Liverpool were keen on the centre-back.

As per the Daily Express, via 90min, Man Utd were tracking the defender after Christmas.

AC Milan have also been chasing the player who had a price tag of €35m, according to Sport1 in November.

The Italian giants were thought to be closing in on a £22m deal in January, but nothing materialised. And now Liverpool have made their a move – and one which Schalke expected, according to the Telegraph.
