United need Rooney type player

Loads of paper talk today. Bissaka medical due, De Gea to sign a new deal, Ole asks Woodward to hurry up with Fernades, Maguire to City. Icardi swap for Lukaku as Inter are £20m short of fee we paid Everton for him. Though these are the same papers who have said almost identical opposite stories at some point recently so take with a pinch of salt!

Is Icardi similar to Rooney and Tevez? Or is he more like Ruud? We need a Tevez/Rooney type player, because they don’t require service to be effective.

All hopes of signing players “before the pre-season tour” have predictably gone out the window and we’re set for another frantic scramble before the end of August which will see us either sign no one of note or just all the wrong players. Looking at the squad, we should be looking at replacing almost every player, which is obviously not going to happen overnight. Daniel James still looks like a squad player this season and even if we don’t factor in the eventual sale of Pogba, we still need 6 players ASAP: a right-back, a center-back, 2 midfielders, a right winger and a center forward. In the unlikely event that all those signings prove to be a success we’d still need another 5 or 6 players next season as well and hope that our academy will start to produce actual quality.

Who should be the captain of Manchester United?

There’s not a single player in our squad worthy of the armband so we’ll probably have to sign one. I can only remember one moment last season when a player put himself on the line for the sake of the team and that’s when an injured Victor Lindelof won a race against 2 Palace players by practically hobbling on one leg. Should the Swede be captain? No, he shouldn’t even be in the first XI going forward but at least that one moment showed a bit of determination and self sacrifice for the sake of the entire team.

Mata, De Gea, Matic, Smalling and (unfortunately) Ash Young are probably the only candidates if Pogba leaves.

DDG is nowhere near captain material, his performances have generally been a beacon of hard work but he doesn’t communicate on the pitch and doesn’t motivate on the pitch. I read somewhere that he doesn’t give 100% in training as he knows he can turn it on in matches but I’m open to correction on the last bit. Captains need to be respected, lead by example and by motivation. They don’t have to be the most talented, they should be a rock for the team but not necessarily the rock the team is built on. Keane was far from the most talented, despite being underrated in some respects, but he was the most driven. He expected more and raised the standards of all around him. There’s no-one at the club, let alone the playing squad, who does that currently.

I would go for Lindelof, he would be playing all the time and that is what the team needs. Think he would be even grow as a player by being captain. You don’t hear anything bad in the media about him like others in the team. Look at Vidic getting the slot above Rio, no one would had thought that was possible. Vidic was an amazing captain for United!!

loney_striker

If Pogba stays he’ll be captain because the club will have offered him the captaincy as an inducement. If not and DDG stays he’ll be be captain and the only senior player guaranteed a start. And if both are gone my money goes on Smalling because he’s been here the longest, Ole knows him and he knows the Fergie way. That he doesn’t play won’t factor into it.

Liverpool should make a move for Arsenal target

I read 15 for Tierney, perhaps that was only an opeing bid?
Anyhow, I think we’re now in a position where we should go for really good back up players. We’re challenging on all fronts and need to prepared for injuries on key players.
Also, in today’s market 15-20 for a good left back is not too bad. Just look at the price tag on wan bissaka.

macattack

If Tierney is available for 15 mil then it s a very good and cheap choice. Robbo must have a good back up and we must buy him.

Chelsea supporters not keen on Kovacic return

Kovacic is okay as a squad player but Madrid want 55m for him. That’s ridiculous, we have plenty other options that can be utilised for that role, want cost us anything besides their current wage. Surely hope Chelsea board can recognise that fact.

Blueowner

also not keen on Kovacic has some good touches but cant score goals or assists.

I keep reading all these rumors about players we bringing in, these newspapers or whatever they called these days are trying to sell stories I guess bearing in mind we have a transfer ban. Most of these players they linking us too we dont even need, no strikers mentioned.

Should Petr Cech have returned to Chelsea as techninal director?

1905, fair points about Zola and I agree that the director role might have been a better fit for him. I’ve always thought the technical director / director of football or whatever they are called is a role best suited to someone towards the end of their managerial career, not so involved in the everyday coaching but more overseeing things from a board level. I’ve posted before that, although I’m pleased to have Petr back, I’m not sure how he is qualified in any way for this role. But interesting times ahead and let’s see how it all pans out!

BlueLion

We don’t know Petr’s academic background so who are we to question or otherwise I guess. The club employed him on a Resume/CV/background that we are not privy to. I guess we just trust the board of Directors to know better than we do. I would be surprised if they just put a bunch of names in a hat and did a lucky dip for the role 🙂

Cech is no slouch alongside his native Czech language he speaks English, French, German and Spanish and he is also an accomplished musician playing the drums to a sufficient level to record with Queens Roger Taylor.

There seems to be a drive at the Club to bring back some of the Club’s most trusted and well respected sons who have enjoyed very good relationships with Roman previously.

It’s obviously a risk given that Cech has no experience in the role and Frank has limited experience in his role but it’s important in both roles that the two can work together and given their previous relationship there’s every chance of that being the case.

But we are in the land of suck it and see it might all go horribly wrong on the other hand it could be a spectacular success and be the beginnings of a new Chelsea only the foolish and opposition fans wouldn’t wish for the latter.

I am not saying that Petr is not academically qualified but what I am saying is that it is not clear to me that he has the right credentials and experience to take on the role having only just finished playing and never been in management

Just threw it out there as Frank, assuming he will be named as manager, will need a lot of help and I was not convinced that apart from playing together that Petr will be able to provide the full support. That being said, the job description is pretty vague and far reaching so maybe between them all they will define a suitable working arrangement. Here’s hoping anyway…? KTBFFH
