Liverpool watch on as €60m star at odds with Inter Milan over new contract

Inter Milan and Marcelo Brozovic are in disagreement over the midfielder’s new contract, with Liverpool looking on, according to reports in Italy.

The Croatian midfielder has been one of Inter’s most important players since joining them in January 2015, but with his contract expiring in 2022, the club may soon face a tough decision over his future.

Liverpool are aware of the player’s qualities, having scouted him in their derby win over AC Milan earlier this year, and will remain attentive to his situation as contract talks continue with Inter.

According to FCInterNews, Brozovic is holding out for a pay-rise that would see him earn €6m-per-season – an increase on the €3.5m salary he currently earns.

Inter have so far only offered a salary of €4.5m as part of Brozovic’s new deal, but they remain keen on keeping hold of him.

The 27-year-old can be signed by other clubs if they activate his €60m release clause between 1st and 15th July, but Inter are also working to remove this as part of their negotiations – a move which could lead to the player asking for more money.

If Inter can reach an agreement with the 2018 World Cup finalist, then his stay would be extended until 2024, but with the situation far from resolved, Liverpool are said to be watching on.

Brozovic has also been linked with La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, with the former potentially tempting Inter into a swap deal that would send Arturo Vidal to the San Siro, finally giving him the chance to reunite with his former Juventus boss Antonio Conte.
