Liverpool’s £156m pursuit of Real Madrid star rests on Neymar
Liverpool’s hopes of landing a £156m Real Madrid star rest solely on the future of Neymar, according to a report.
The Spain midfielder, who has appeared as a substitute in two of his nation’s three matches in the tournament so far, has been linked with a summer move to Liverpool.
And Spain’s 2-2 draw with Morocco, he was asked about his future, which he replied: “Liverpool? When the World Cup is over, we’ll talk about that sort of thing, now I’m focused on selection.
“I’m glad Julen has signed up for Real Madrid, after the World Cup we’ll talk things over with him.”
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Asensio’s future rests on whether Real Madrid manage to land PSG star Neymar this summer.
Real president Florentino Perez reportedly knows that it will cost £264m (€300m) to sign the Brazil international this summer should PSG decide to part with him.
According to the report, Perez is willing to sell Asensio in order to secure a spectacular return to LaLiga for Neymar.
The former Barcelona man is seen as the long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, and would earn the same wage at Real as he does currently with PSG.
