Lloyd Kelly off the menu for Liverpool after Michael Edwards is left angered

Lloyd Kelly

Liverpool will not be moving to sign Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth this summer amid claims of a disagreement.

The Reds were keen on Kelly last summer but missed out to the Cherries who sealed a £13m deal.

But the former Bristol City man has emerged as a Liverpool target again following Bournemouth’s relegation.

A report last week claimed the Reds had been in talks over a deal for the England Under-21 man.

It claimed the player very much appealed to Jurgen Klopp due to his ability to cover two positions.

Kelly, rated in the £20m bracket, usually plays at centre-half but is comfortable covering at left-back. These are the two positions Klopp wants to cover as top priorities this summer. Dejan Lovren left the club this week to join Zenit St Petersburg in a £10.9m deal. That’s left Klopp with just three central defenders, meaning a fourth is needed.

In addition, Klopp needs more cover for Andy Robertson at left-back. The Reds do have Yasser Larouci coming through but he is tipped to leave this summer.

However, it seems Liverpool will not be following up their initial interest in the Bournemouth man.

The Athletic claim there’s ‘no chance’ of Liverpool moving again for England U21 international.

Michael Edwards, Liverpool’s sporting director, ‘was angered by how the player’s agency conducted itself last summer’.

And it seems they have burnt their bridges for their client over a potential move to Liverpool.

Jamal Lewis offer by Liverpool

The Reds will instead move for Norwich’s Jamal Lewis, with the full-back having agreed a move in principle.

The 22-year-old left-back, who made 25 starts in the Premier League, is happy to play second fiddle at Anfield to Andy Robertson.

The Athletic claim Edwards has put forward a bid of £10million, with £8million up front and a further £2million in add-ons.

He is under contract until 2023 and Norwich are said to valie Lewis at nearing £20m.
