Manchester City look set to win the race to sign an Ajax wonderkid after agreeing to meet his huge asking price, a report claims.

Three Premier League sides – namely City, Manchester United and Spurs – have all been touted as potential suitors for Frenkie De Jong.

The 21-year-old made his senior debut for the Dutch senior side earlier this month after an impressive start to the new season the Eredivisie.

De Jong notched seven assists in 22 league appearances for Ajax last season but has already played 15 times in all competitions this campaign and is not just interesting clubs in England.

Catalan giants Barcelona are known admirers of the player, but a recent report Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, as cited by Diario AS, claim that Real Madrid’s interest has intensified.

However, Daily Star now state that Man City will break their transfer record by launching a £71million bid for De Jong in January.

The player is believed to carry an €80m asking price, and the report confirms that City would loan him back to Ajax for the rest of the season should they strike a deal.
