Lowton set to join Burnley

It is understood a fee of around £1m, plus add-ons, has been agreed between the clubs and that a three-year deal will be completed in the next 24 hours.

The right-back, who joined Villa from Sheffield United in the summer of 2012, has fallen out of favour under Tim Sherwood and has struggled to dislodge Alan Hutton in his first-team plans.

Lowton would join Championship side Burnley as a direct replacement for Kieran Trippier who left the Clarets last week to join Tottenham on a five-year contract.

Sherwood has already boosted his defensive options after signing former Manchester City full-back Micah Richards on a Bosman free transfer.

Lowton’s team-mates Darren Bent and Andi Weimann have also recently left Villa Park for Championship side Derby County.
