Arsenal are considering terminating Lucas Torreira’s loan deal with Atletico Madrid so they can sell him elsewhere, according to reports.
Torreira left Arsenal for Atletico on loan in the summer after two years in the Premier League. He effectively swapped places with Thomas Partey, even though both deals were separate.
However, Torreira has not had the impact expected of him in La Liga. He has started just two of Atletico’s first 14 league games.
It has led to speculation that Arsenal could cut short his stay in Spain. Mikel Arteta refused to comment on that possibility recently, and Torreira’s agent denied it, but it seems to be gathering pace.
Now, Todofichajes claim that Arsenal will end Torreira’s loan spell. However, he will not necessarily have a future back at the Emirates Stadium.
Instead, the Gunners will look to find a buyer for the midfielder. They are hoping that two clubs who wanted to take him to Serie A in the summer will reignite their interest.
The report claims Torino and Fiorentina remain contenders to take Torreira to Italy. The Uruguay international previously played for Torino boss Marco Giampaolo at Sampdoria, while Fiorentina are also long-term admirers.
Of the two, though, it is Torino who are in pole position. But Todofichajes still expect Fiorentina to muscle in as well.
Arsenal set modest price tag
Furthermore, the report claims Arsenal have set a reasonable price tag for the 24-year-old.
It is claimed that the Gunners are looking for just €12m to sanction his departure. That’s around half the price they originally paid to sign him from Sampdoria.
Both Torino and Fiorentina should be able to afford that valuation.
Torreira still has two-and-a-half years of contract left with Arsenal. However, it seems they are trying to cut their losses before his value drops further.
What’s more, the report says that the player knows he has no future with Atletico. Therefore, he is already thinking about his next step.
