Former Liverpool star Suarez names preference out of Haaland, Mbappe

Luis Suarez Cardiff v Liverpool 2014

Luis Suarez has given a glowing praise of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland and says he prefers him to Kylian Mbappe – even if it is close.

Haaland and Mbappe are the two players most expected to battle for the Ballon d’Or when the time comes for Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to retire.

Already with plenty of experience under their belts but with many more years ahead of them than behind, the Dortmund and PSG attackers could be the faces of their generation.

The pair have both been linked with Premier League moves, even though they are already at big clubs. For example, Haaland is a top target for Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Liverpool have also been linked, but their attention seems more fixated towards Mbappe. The Frenchman’s contract with PSG expires in little over a year’s time.

Now, a former Liverpool striker has had his say on which player he prefers. Luis Suarez – now with Atletico Madrid – has revealed his admiration of Haaland.

“He is a great player and he is at a spectacular level,” Suarez told Gerard Romero in an interview (via Football Espana).

“He has an admirable physical power and he is one of the best No.9s in the world and he will mark an era.

“I prefer Haaland a little more, but Mbappe is at a very high level.”

Montero: Real want Haaland, Mbappe next summer

Spanish football journalist Alvaro Montero believes Real Madrid will pursue deals for Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe next summer, amid speculation over Mohamed Salah's future.

Of course, Suarez knows all about what it takes to be a top-level striker. The 34-year-old has scored more than 400 goals across his professional career – including 82 for Liverpool.

Haaland drops future hint

Meanwhile, Haaland himself has been speaking about links with Europe’s biggest clubs.

The subject of his future was the hot topic when Haaland reported for international duty.

While the striker has given little away, he was asked what it would take to prise him away from Dortmund.

“They must want me,” he told VG when asked about the possibility of changing clubs.
