Lukaku in limbo after total breakdown in relationship with Solskjaer
Romelu Lukaku’s relationship with Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has broken down, according to a report in The Athletic.
The striker has been heavily linked with a move to Serie A giants Juventus and Inter with the latter desperate to get a deal done before the Premier League window closes tomorrow.
The Belgium striker though is still in his homeland, having trained with Anderlecht’s U18s in the last two days.
The striker had been granted permission to train with Vincent Kompany’s men on Monday, with United’s players on a day off, but he failed to report back to Carrington on Tuesday leaving Solskjaer furious.
The Daily Mirror report that Lukaku will receive a severe dressing down from Solskjaer when he returns to Manchester and is set to be hit with a fine of two weeks’ wages.
Lukaku, who did not play a minute for United in pre-season, is waiting for Inter and United to agree a fee.
They have until September 1 to sign the 26-year-old striker, but United may well be reluctant to offload him if they do not add to their squad before Thursday’s Premier League deadline.
“We continue to work on it in the best possible way,” said Antonio Conte after his side drew 1-1 at Tottenham in a pre-season friendly.
“I understand there are some gaps that need to be filled but at the moment I am very hopeful that this will happen.
“At the same time I’m working with a great group of players that gives me lots of satisfaction.”
