Luke Shaw hits out at critics of Man Utd struggler as Ronaldo impact is hailed

Jadon Sancho not to be too concerned about his slow start to life at Manchester United after being told he’s heading for the top by teammate Luke Shaw.

The 21-year-old finally joined United this summer in a £73m deal – ending a chase of close to three years. However, it’s been a seriously slow start for Sancho, who is yet to score or create a goal in nine appearances so far.

However, Shaw is adamant that Sancho cannot be branded a flop and has told his critics that the player is heading for the top.

“Sometimes, for people, it takes time,” Shaw told talkSPORT, via Metro. “But I wouldn’t say he’s struggling at the moment.

“He’s working extremely hard behind closed doors and training really well and looking really sharp. He just hasn’t had that bit of luck that sometimes you need for your first goal or first assist.

“But I’ve got no doubt in my mind, it’s coming. The talent he has is unbelievable, he can go right to the very top.

“It’s just about him staying focused, keep doing what he’s doing in training and working hard. His time will come.”

Sancho scored an impressive 50 goals in 137 appearances for Borussia Dortmund.

Now the Bundesliga side are trying every trick in the book to try and prevent another Dortmund star departing.

However, one man who has hit the ground running at Old Trafford is Cristiano Ronaldo.

Donny van de Beek's agent is reportedly working tirelessly to secure the Dutchman a move away from Old Trafford, with more updates on Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele, and Edinson Cavani.

The legendary Portuguese star has five goals in six appearances so far. And Shaw admits he has seriously raised the bar at United.

“He’s definitely raised the levels,” the 26-year-old said. “I think there’s no question why he’s been one of the best players in the world over the last ten years.

“The way he conducts himself, the standards he sets, and his mentality is one of the best I’ve ever witnessed.

‘It’s only good for us as teammates to be surrounded by someone like that, who will only raise the bar.”

Shaw urges United to learn from Ronaldo

Now Shaw insists United’s squad needs to learn from the standards Ronaldo sets and try and match his ambitions.

“We need to follow that. Everywhere he goes, he wins, and that’s why – because the standards he sets are so high.

“We need equal those standards and push in the right direction with him and as a team.”

Shaw joked, however, that he has not had to keep a close watch on him yet in training.

“I haven’t had to mark him yet,” he added.

“But he’s very sharp, always in the right position to score the goals, and his movement is one of the best I’ve ever seen.

“It’s no surprise he’s scoring goals and he has been for many years because he’s always in the right place at the right time. That’s a sign of a world-class player.’
