Lyon boss chats Fekir’s future as Giroud reveals Chelsea talks

Lyon manager Bruno Genesio has refused to rule out the chances of Nabil Fekir leaving the club this summer.

The France international was on the verge of a £53million move to Liverpool earlier this summer, only for the move to collapse in strange circumstances with a row emerging over his fee and a long-standing knee injury.

The Blues have also been linked with a move for Fekir – who has hinted he would prefer a move to Liverpool – in the recent past with Maurizio Sarri looking to improve his squad before the transfer deadline at 5pm on Thursday.

Genesio said on his captain: “It’s too early to say [what will happen].

“He wanted to leave at the end of last season but came back to training yesterday and was happy.

“Who knows? There may be opportunities that come up before the end of the window.

“For now, he is a Lyon player.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has revealed that he spoke to Fekir in order to try and tempt him to Stamford Bridge.

“I spoke to him when we were together in the French national team, when his move to Liverpool fell through,” Giroud told RMC Sport.

“Then we discussed Chelsea, and I even think that Eden said a couple of words to him.

“We would obviously welcome him, he is a super player, but I don’t know if this is something that could happen as the window closes on Thursday.”
