Macclesfield Town have announced the appointment as manager of Sol Campbell with a slick Twitter post.
The League Two basement side posted a picture of a bottle of Sol beer with the caption “Drink anyone?”.
The club’s website read: “Macclesfield Town are delighted to announce that former Arsenal and England defender Sol Campbell is to become our new First Team Manager, after agreeing an 18-month deal with the club.”
The former England defender, 44, has been trying to get into management for the last few years and has finally been given a chance at Moss Rose.
Campbell, capped 73 times by his country as a player, has chosen a tough task for his first job in management with Macclesfield already seven points adrift of safety after winning the National League title last season.
Campbell had made no secret of his desire to become a manager and has spoken out on a number of occasions about the barriers for aspiring BAME coaches.
