Ainsley Maitland-Niles could still leave Arsenal before the summer transfer deadline in his bid to play regular first-team football.
Maitland-Niles has managed to change the mind of boss Mikel Arteta after a series of impressive performances for the Gunners.
In fact he was a starter in the FA Cup win over Liverpool and was named man of the match.
“Absolutely, he was magnificent. And I was sure about that with the way he’s training, the way he’s changed his mentality and his mindset. A
“He has everything, he has great qualities, I believe in him. I had to give him opportunities and today he took it with both arms. He had a really good performance,” said Arteta after the Wembley win.
Arteta was believed to be open to offloading the 22-year-old, with the board looking to raise funds for strengthening the squad.
But his form is believed to have convinced Arteta to keep hold of the versatile star, who was capped by England this week.
Sky Sports stated that “Wolves’ pursuit looks to be at an end today as they now believe Arsenal want to keep him at the Emirates”.
Arsenal were said to be ‘looking into a new deal for the defender’ despite the player still having three years remaining on his contract.
Now though the Daily Mail report that Maitland-Niles could still look to move on after tasting international football.
Maitland-Niles is eager to keep at the forefront of Gareth Southgate’s plans – particularly with Euro 2020 just nine months away.
That means that a transfer to Wolves is still very much a possibility and the paper claim Wolves, who have already had a £15m offer for Maitland-Niles rejected, are preparing an improved bid.
Wolves are looking for a replacement for Matt Doherty, who recently signed for Spurs.
Maitland-Niles will look towards the Premier League opener against Fulham and if he does not get a role at wing-back then he could well look at reviving a move to Molineux.
