Arsenal will be without Gabriel Martinelli for the start of next season after the striker underwent knee surgery.
Martinelli joined the Gunners in a £5m move from Ituano last summer and has made a big impression during his first season in north London.
Martinelli has scored 10 times in 26 appearances for the club; a breathtaking solo goal at Chelsea the highlight.
But after sustaining an injury on June 21, Martinelli was ruled out for the rest of the season.
Sadly for Arsenal and Martinelli, the striker has now been forced to undergo surgery to correct the problem.
Martinelli needed the operation to repair a lesion in the cartilage of his knee, and is currently recovering.
However, manager Mikel Arteta is unlikely to be able to call upon the forward until late in the year, or possibly early 2021.
An Arsenal statement on Martienelli read: “Currently recovering in a knee brace after his operation, which took place during the last week of June.
“Currently at our training centre every day receiving specialist attention and support from our medical team.
“Will continue his recovery throughout the close season, with the aim of a return to full training by the end of 2020.”
Arsenal talks for Malang Sarr
The Gunners, meanwhile, have begun negotiations over a deal for Malang Sarr.
The 21-year-old moved to Nice in 2015, initially with their B team. He then stepped up to the first team in 2016.
Since then, however, he has proved an outstanding signing, making 102 Ligue 1 appearances in four seasons.
Sarr has earned rave reviews for his performances for Nice this season, where he made 20 appearances in all competitions.
But after coming to the end of his contract, the 21-year-old finds himself in high demand.
The likes of RB Leipzig, Torino and Sampdoria are also said to be keen on Sarr. Man City boss Pep Guardiola is also reported to be a fan.
But it seems Arsenal are already ahead of their rivals after it was reported they had already held talks.
