Moises Caicedo TEAMtalk

Manchester United’s plans to quickly wrap up a deal for Moises Caicedo appear to have hit a major stumbling block after it was claimed his price had gone up significantly.

Caicedo recently emerged as a winter target for United as they look to sign the best young talent from across the globe.

And their hopes of landing him looked nailed on before Christmas when a report claimed a deal was ‘all agreed’.

Apparently, United had met Independiente Del Valle’s asking price of £4.5m for Caicedo. And with personal terms also not an issue, the deal was reported to be subject only to a work permit being obtained.

However, Ecuadorian paper El Diario insists an agreement with United is yet to be reached.

Furthermore, the report, expertly translated by Sport Witness, claims Independiente’s asking price has now been set at €10m.

Caicedo made his first team debut in 2019 and featured for Ecuador’s senior team last year.

However, even the player admits his dramatic rise is not something he expected to happen so soon.

“The truth is I did not believe that everything was going to happen so quickly,” he said. “But I entrust myself to God a lot and I work hard so that things turn out the way they are going.

“For example, I did not believe I would be at such an early age in the Ecuador national team. As I said, everything is thanks to God and the opportunity that the ‘teachers’ give me to show myself.”

Caicedo discusses Man Utd interest

Caicedo admits interest in him is flattering and he hopes to continue his upward curve in the years ahead.

Asked about the growing interest in him amid interest from United, Caicedo says he just wants to stay grounded.

“It is very nice to be asked to interview… I did not think I’d grow up so fast. I make a lot of effort and I think journalists also notice that when interviewing me,” the midfielder explained.

On his plans for 2021, Caicedo said he wants to “continue growing as a footballer” and “to continue on the right track.”
