Man City consider joining race for €60m Man Utd defensive target
Manchester City are weighing up whether or not to make an offer for Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti, according to reports.
Umtiti has fallen down the pecking order at the Camp Nou, and has been heavily linked with a move away this summer despite his apparent wish to stay.
In terms of Premier League interest, Arsenal and Manchester United have been suggested as potential destinations – but now, it is the latter’s rivals who are contemplating joining the race.
According to Le10 Sport, Man City have begun looking into the possibility of a move for Umtiti to bolster their defence. Vincent Kompany has already parted ways with Pep Guardiola’s side, while Nicolas Otamendi could follow him out the door.
Therefore, reinforcements may be needed at centre-back, and it is suggested that City have started to enquire over the figures that would be involved in a deal for Umtiti.
Barcelona are said to want €60m for the 2018 World Cup winner, but they may consider an opening offer of €50m.
However, no official bid has arrived from City just yet, and the player’s openness to the move is yet to be seen, as he looks to keep his place in Didier Deschamps’ plans for Euro 2020.
