Man City eye €100m Man Utd target as Alexis alternative

Manchester City’s decision to pass on a deal for Alexis Sanchez could open the door for a swoop for Antoine Griezmann, a report claims.

According to the Metro, Pep Guardiola will push the City hierarchy to make a move for Griezmann after being promised by the club that they will attempt to sign an alternative to Sanchez.

The Chile international appeared to be on the verge of re-uniting with former boss Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium, but late interest from Manchester United has derailed the deal.

City have now apparently pulled out of the race as they are not willing to meet Arsenal’s £35million valuation. They took the decision on Monday to pursue alternative targets, the Metro claims.

Griezmann has a €100million (£89m) release clause in his current deal at Atletico Madrid, and Barcelona have been linked with a move.

The France international was a target for United in the summer, but he turned down a switch to Old Trafford due to Atletico’s transfer ban.
