City players surrounded referee Anthony Taylor following the sending-off of Fabian Delph.

Following Delph’s dismissal City manager Pep Guardiola and Wigan counterpart Paul Cook argued on the touchline and also had words in the tunnel at half-time.

At the end of the match Wigan fans invaded the pitch and City supporters were involved in unrest, with some damage caused to advertising boards.

City striker Sergio Aguero was confronted by one fan on the pitch in an incident which was investigated by the FA, who decided to take no action against the player.

Wigan won the game with a second-half goal from Will Grigg to earn a quarter-final tie against Southampton.
