Man City keeper Ederson won’t discuss Mourinho tunnel incident

Ederson has discussed his learnings under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City – but not his tunnel incident with Jose Mourinho.

Ederson has impressed at City since joining in a £34million deal in the summer, playing a key role for the Premier League leaders.

One of his main traits has been his ability with the ball at his feet, which was in full evidence in the 4-1 victory over Tottenham.

The keeper constantly bypassed Tottenham’s press by launching pinpoint 40-yard passes to teammates, which he says was always part of Guardiola’s vision.

“He told me the way the team play,” he told the Daily Telegraph. “He told me about the importance of the build-up, but also about the ‘mid-balls’ and with me he could also have ‘long-balls’, so our game was going to be more complete.

“So when I started training here, we worked a lot on that, the short, mid and long-balls. Training session after training session I got used to it and kept improving. Every day I learn something new.”

Ederson spoke about a range of topics in the interview, from his upbringing to his beginnings in football as a full-back.

But Jason Burt said that ‘there is only one topic he does not want to discuss’ – the events in the tunnel after the Manchester derby earlier this month.

The keeper was allegedly at the forefront of the scuffle, engaging in an argument with United manager Mourinho in his native Portuguese.

As long as Ederson wasn’t the one who made Mikel Arteta bleed, that’s fine.
