Man City pull out of Mahrez deal as Leicester demand £95m

Riyad Mahrez’s Leicester City team-mates have reportedly been left fuming by his decision not to travel to Everton.

Reports on Wednesday suggested Manchester City have made a final offer of £65million for Mahrez.

Sky Sports claimed the approach is being considered by the Foxes, with the deal thought to include an as-yet undisclosed player moving in the other direction.

Mahrez himself has reportedly submitted a transfer request in order to try and push through a late move.

Sky reporter Michelle Owen issued an update on the future of the Algerian international.

“Manchester City have made a final cash-plus-player offer for Riyad Mahrez worth up to £65m,: she said during their deadline day program.

“We’ve heard Leicester’s team-mates are ‘angry and upset’ with Mahrez because he hasn’t travelled with the squad to Everton.

“We’re still waiting though to hear from Leicester whether that cash sum – and the as-yet unidentified player – will be enough…”

However, in a twist, the Premier League leaders have now pulled out of the deal, Sky Sports reporter Ben Ransom claims.

“I’ve had it confirmed that Man City are walking away from Riyad Mahrez – the deal is off. The fee was ultimately a sticking point,” he said.

“I’m told Leicester were after a combined package of around £95m – cash plus a player. City were very interested in bringing in Mahrez but he will not be moving to City in this window.

“As with Alexis Sanchez, the club were not prepared to pay what they thought was over the market value. Fees were discussed but no formal bid was ever placed.”
