Manchester City have pulled out of the race to sign Faouzi Ghoulam from Serie A side Napoli, according to Calcio Mercato.
Liverpool and Juventus are both keen to boost their defensive options in January, and have been keeping tabs on the 25-year-old.
Pep Guardiola’s interest was sparked after the injury to Benjamin Mendy, who picked up a knee injury that has ruled him out for a sustained period.
The Citizens have had scouts watching the Algerian international, but they are no longer interested in his signature, which comes as a boost to the Reds and the Old Lady.
Napoli are not keen on selling Ghoulam in January, but if the player refuses to sign a new deal with the club, it may help the chasing clubs’ cause.
However, for now, Man City won’t be following up their interest in the Algerian.
