Kevin de Bruyne: Out longer than expected

Manchester City have been rocked by the news that midfielder Kevin de Bruyne will be out for “around 10 weeks”.

It was originally reported he would be looking at an absence of just six weeks, but that has now been extended after consulting with a specialist.

The Belgian has been a consistency influential figure for City since arriving from Wolfsburg in a £58million deal last summer, with the club still fighting on four fronts in their quest for trophies this season.

However, after being carried off the pitch with knee ligament damage during the League Cup semi-final success over Everton on Wednesday, he has confirmed he is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

He is now certain to miss the League Cup final against Liverpool on February 28, as well as the Champions League double-header against Dynamo Kiev.
