Manchester United are leading rivals Manchester City and Chelsea in the race to sign a Serie A star, a report claims.
According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, the Red Devils have taken the lead in the race to sign veteran defender Leonardo Bonucci.
City and Chelsea are believed to be long-time admirers of the former Juventus man, who completed a controversial switch to San Siro last summer for a fee €42m.
With AC Milan excluded from European competition for next season, there has been rumours that some star players could leave the club.
The 31-year-old made 51 appearances in all competitions this past season and is still regarded as one of the top central defenders in European football.
However, he quashed rumours about an exit when speaking to Sky Sport Italia: “There is no problem whatsoever [at Milan]. I hope these rumours will be put to bed so we can build something important.
“We’re aiming to return to the Champions League and to compete for big objectives.”
