Manchester United have been alerted to the fact that Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels is reportedly ready to quit the Bundesliga club.

The Germany international has been a known target for United in the past, having opted to turn the Red Devils down in 2014.

United are in search of defensive reinforcements, and Hummels would certainly fit the bill for the calibre of player Jose Mourinho is looking to attract in January.

German news outlet Bild claim Hummels’ future with Bayern is in doubt having become part of the club’s rotation system under Niko Kovac.

They believe the defender is considering a move away from the Allianz Arena in the coming month’s – with United one of the biggest club’s in the world notably in search of a quality centre-back.
