Manchester United are “baffled” at transfer speculation claiming that they are close to signing Ainsley Maitland-Niles, according to a report.

Reports on Wednesday claimed that a deal to take the Arsenal full-back to Old Trafford was “80 per cent done”.

United were supposedly completing the final paperwork for the transfer, which Sport1 claimed would go through in the coming days.

According to the Daily Mirror, however, the Red Devils have rejected the idea that Maitland-Niles is on their radar.

Goal, meanwhile, claims that Arsenal have labelled the initial report as “pure speculation”.

United are in the hunt for a full-back but they want a left-back as opposed to a right-back. Porto’s Alex Telles is a firm target, with the Portuguese club keen to sell up.

Telles, 27, has entered the final year of his contract and does not want to renew ties in Lisbon. As such, Porto are keen to recoup a fee while the opportunity remains.

Talks are ongoing between United and Porto, with the Red Devils already reportedly submitting two bids.

What’s more, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are looking for reinforcements up top. While winger Jadon Sancho remains their top target, strikers Luka Jovic and Edinson Cavani are on their radar.

Barcelona wide man Ousmane Dembele is also a target. The Frenchman could move to Old Trafford on a loan deal, having struggled so far to make his mark in Spain.

Arsenal are also looking to strengthen further, with Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar on their radar. The Gunners have submitted their first bid for the 22-year-old, which Lyon described as “timid”.

Reports claim though that Arsenal need to bring in further transfer funds before they can match Aouar’s asking price.

Uruguay international Lucas Torriera is one player who could leave in a bid to boost the club’s transfer kitty. Atletico Madrid reportedly remain keen on the midfielder.
