Manchester United retain an interest in Antoine Griezmann and could reportedly go after the Barcelona forward if other attacking targets pass them by.
United pursued Jadon Sancho last summer, but the Borussia Dortmund winger’s £108million exit fee put them off.
However, reports have claimed that the Red Devils are hopeful that a bid of around £50million could now suffice.
Nevertheless, Old Trafford chiefs have a portfolio of attackers on their radar ahead of the summer window.
According to OkDiario, French striker Griezmann is among them.
What’s more, United’s interest could act as a lifeline for Barcelona, who are struggling to offload the 29-year-old.
The report indicates that Barcelona are willing to drop their demands for a sale and accept at least half of the £107million (BBC) fee they paid to sign him from Atletico Madrid in 2019.
However, they are still struggling to find a buyer, with no team keen enough to spend around €60million (£52million) on the player.
In addition, OkDiario reports that Griezmann is ‘clinging’ to his multi-million-euro contract. As such, his wages would present further problems for potential suitors in the future.
The France international has scored 12 goals and assisted 10 others under Ronald Koeman this season.
As for United’s interest, Griezmann sits way down on the club’s list of targets.
Indeed, the Red Devils have focused on bringing in some of the world’s best young talent of late. Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri have arrived in recent months and the former is close to a first-team role.
Nevertheless, United could opt to go after Griezmann if they fail in their efforts with other targets.
Spanish giants Barcelona stepped up plans to shift Griezmann ‘days’ before the start of the January transfer window, when club chiefs contacted his agent.
But those efforts proved to be in ‘vain’ and the situation has not changed since. Griezmann’s contract runs out in the summer of 2024.
Man Utd target will push once bid arrives
While United remain keen on signing another forward, a centre-back addition has supposedly taken precedence.
Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic is reportedly one player on the club’s radar in that department.
According to the latest speculation, he has shown interest in a move to Old Trafford.
