Man Utd have ‘big plans’ for misfit; set to reject proposed loan exit

Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba and Donny Van de Beek of Man Utd

Donny van de Beek will reportedly be denied the chance to return Ajax on loan next season, with Manchester United having ‘big plans’ in place for the struggling midfielder.

Van de Beek has hardly been seen since his £35million move from the Dutch giants, with strong speculation that United could loan him out this summer. The 24-year-old has only made two Premier League starts this term – in wins over Southampton and West Ham back in November.

Recent reports from Italy suggested the Holland star could be involved in a swap deal for Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo.

The 21-year-old Giallorossi midfielder has been out of action all season with an ACL injury. However, he was firmly on United’s radar prior to that.

But according to The Sun, the Red Devils still have ‘big plans’ for van de Beek. Indeed, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged the player to be patient and wait for his chance.

United fought off competition from Tottenham to sign the former Ajax man last summer. But things haven’t quite worked out the way he would have wanted in Manchester.

Van de Beek once again came off the bench as United hammered Roma 6-2 in the Europa League semi-finals. He is expected to get a rare start in the second leg in Italy next week.

The report does not state what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s ‘big plans’ are for the player. However, it may hint towards midfield players moving on this summer and van de Beek getting more opportunities to try and shine.

Paul Pogba’s future was once again in the headlines on Sunday. One report claimed that the France star was set to be handed a bumper new contract, while another stated that United had come to a decision to sell.

Chelsea ace tipped to shine at United

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham could easily fit in at Manchester United amid his lack of game time under Thomas Tuchel, claims one pundit.

The Englishman could prove to be a key character in this summer’s transfer window. He flourished in his first season with the Blues last term, but has struggled in recent months. In fact, his drop-off has coincided with injury and the arrival of Tuchel to the dugout in west London.

As such, speculation has emerged that he could seek a move away this summer to advance his career.

Several Premier League teams have also had links to the 23-year-old; Leicester are looking for Jamie Vardy’s long-term replacement, while one report claims that he could move back to former loan club Aston Villa.

According to pundit Simon Jordan, though, the Blues star is good enough to play for the Red Devils. However, he admitted that, while he remains at Chelsea, Abraham has a problem fitting into the club’s tactics.

Blues ready to cash in

The former Crystal Palace chairman was speaking amid reports from the Daily Telegraph that Chelsea will make Abraham available for £40million.

“If I was a chairman of a football club, a top six club which is where I think he’ll land, whether that’s in Europe or this particular league, I think £40m is probably a little bit toppy as a straight, nailed-on payment,” Jordan told talkSPORT.

“I think if you get there you start buying at £25m, £30m and you get £10m worth of add-ons based on goals and performances which he’ll get, I think you’ll get to £40m.

“Whether it’s a club like Barcelona, because I can see him going somewhere like that, or a club in Italy, or one of the top six in this country.

“I think this boy can play in a Man United side.

“I think he’s a really good player.I’m surprised he’s not featuring, but I can also see the way Chelsea are setting up that he doesn’t and won’t give them what they want in that particular set-up.”
