Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer branded a question asking for a transfer update as a “waste” in his latest press conference.
Solskjaer has been continually asked by journalists throughout January for an update on the club’s search for new players, with the Red Devils credited with interest in several players.
United have been in talks with Sporting Lisbon for almost two weeks over a deal for Bruno Fernandes, while the likes of Krzysztof Piatek and Edinson Cavani have both been linked as the club look to sign a striker.
Asked again on Tuesday for an update, Solskjaer said: “I think it was a waste [of a question], I gave you the option [not to ask it].
“I haven’t got anything to say now, my mind is just on the game [against Manchester City].
“We’ve got players here that we’re working hard to get back as well and if there is something out there then the club are pursuing that and looking at it and, of course, it’s difficult in the window, it always has been.”
Continuing by talking about United‘s recent history in the January transfer window, Solskjaer went on to make the claim that Alexis Sanchez will come back from his loan with Inter Milan and prove his worth.
Sanchez failed to show his best ability following his move from Arsenal in January 2o18 and Solskjaer said: “I can’t remember how many good ones we’ve brought in on good deals in January.
“Henrik [Larsson] was good, Nemanja [Vidic] and Patrice [Evra] were two good ones. I’m talking about [how] hard, very hard it is.
“The clubs don’t want to lose their best players and Alexis [Sanchez] will come back in the summer and prove you all wrong.”
Solskjaer was speaking ahead of the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against City on Wednesday.
United head into the game 3-1 down from the first leg, but Solskjaer insisted that his side have a chance of staging a comeback.
“They’re getting players back as well, we hit them last time when they were struggling a bit and since then they’ve played really well.
“We’ve lost Scott [McTominay] and Marcus [Rashford] since that game, a little bit lighter in the playing department.
“We can’t just defend, we have to try keep the ball and make them run after the ball, perfect performance it has to be but, we’ve done amazing things before at this club and the PSG game is for me is a very, very good example of how you can make a two goal deficit work in your favour.
“We need the first goal.”
In other United news, the club are reportedly facing a stumbling block in their efforts to sign AC Milan striker Piatek.
The Red Devils are looking to get a new attacker in with Rashford set to be out until at least April with a serious back injury.
However, United only want a loan deal for Poland international Piatek but Milan are said to be seeking a fee for the player.
