Man Utd boss Solskjaer still interested in Newcastle midfield star

Manchester United are reportedly still interested in a move for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff, but only once they sort their defence.

Recent reports have linked the Red Devils with a move for the 21-year-old this summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to overhaul is ageing squad by adding exciting talent.

With Ander Herrera departing and Juan Mata’s future far from assured, the Norwegian will need to add at least two midfield players.

Longstaff enjoyed a breakthrough season under Rafa Benitez and has earned praise for his mature performances in the middle of the park.

He has only made nine Premier League appearances and his season was cut short when he suffered a knee ligament injury during Newcastle’s defeat to West Ham in March, but is rated highly by the Magpies.

Now, a report from the London Evening Standard suggests that interest in Longstaff is genuine, but that United are eager to snap up a centre-back before they address other areas.

Rumours have suggested that Leicester and England centre-half Harry Maguire is the priority for Solskjaer this transfer window, but it will likely command a world-record fee to sign him.
