Man Utd, Chelsea dealt blow as Serie A giants return for €100m star

Italian giants AC Milan are set to rival Chelsea and Manchester United for an £88million Serie A star, according to a report.

The Thursday edition of Italian paper Corriere dello Sport claims that the Milan board are once again plotting a move for Torino star Andrea Belotti.

The Rossoneri pursued the 24-year-old aggressively in the summer, however they were unable to get a deal over the line.

Belotti has a deal with current club Torino that lasts until June 2022, and has a €100million release clause in his contract which applies to clubs outside Serie A.

The Italy international has been linked with moves to Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, but both clubs are likely not to pay the clause due to his so far under-par season.

Earlier in the month, it was claimed that Manchester United were eyeing Belotti as a possible replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Sweden legend penned a deal until the end of June and looks certain to take up an offer from either the MLS or Chinese Super League in the summer, leaving United looking for another central attacking option to rival Romelu Lukaku.

Metro (via Yahoo Sport) claimed that United are already looking at potential replacements for the veteran hitman and that Belotti is top of their list.

Club president Urbano Cairo said earlier this month: “It’s the market that dictates the prices. If Coutinho is sold for €160m then perhaps, if Belotti goes back to doing what he usually does, [his release clause] will be low.”
